Part 2/2 – U.S. Domestic Political Stability and Security: A Strategic Estimate for 2024 and Beyond

Ahead of the U.S. presidential election, sociopolitical actors and movements are contributing to the already toxic political and social environment. External shocks, such as the conflicts in Ukraine and between Israel and Hamas, are adding fuel to the fire, as are emerging technologies in the hands of bad actors. In this analysis, the second part of a two-part report on U.S. political instability and security, Daryl Johnson and Alejandro Beutel examine these factors and how they affect the likelihood of political violence both before and after the election. The authors encourage policymakers to remain vigilant, prepared, and conscientious of this ever-evolving threat. Divisive and violent political rhetoric and general allowance of the continuation of these contributing factors will see a continued high threat landscape.
