Bridging Washington and Westminster: New Atlantic Bridge Initiative Launched to Advance the U.S.-UK Special Relationship

Washington, D.C., June 18, 2026 — New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy announced the launch of The Atlantic Bridge, a new initiative established to strengthen legislative engagement and strategic dialogue between the United States Congress and the United Kingdom Parliament.

The Atlantic Bridge has been established to provide dedicated policy research, expert convening, and high-level transatlantic programming in direct support of legislators and policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic. Its activities will include producing policy briefings and research memos for members of Congress and Parliament, organizing expert roundtables and private briefings, coordinating engagement with senior U.S. and UK officials and think tanks, and delivering an annual U.S.-UK Strategic Outlook report.

For the occasion, Dr. Azeem Ibrahim OBE, Chief Strategy Officer at New Lines Institute, and lead of The Atlantic Bridge initiative, said: “The U.S.–UK partnership is the most integrated and strategically important alliance in the world,” said Dr. Ibrahim. “At a moment when geopolitical competition is intensifying, The Atlantic Bridge will provide the sustained policy attention and convening capacity that this relationship deserves. Beginning with the U.S.–UK relationship as our foundation, we intend to expand the initiative to bring in other key European partners in the near future.”

The Atlantic Bridge will focus on four priority areas: defense and strategic cooperation, including the future of NATO and AUKUS; economic security and technology partnerships; democratic resilience and countering authoritarian influence; and joint approaches to global crises. Initial events will be held in both Washington, D.C., and London, bringing together legislators, ministers, and policy experts from both nations.

Dr. Azeem Ibrahim OBE is the author of A Greater Britain: Rethinking UK Grand Strategy and Statecraft (Biteback: 2025). His work on transatlantic strategy and global policy has informed decision-makers in Washington and London.
