Book Talk with David Kirkpatrick

Join Allison McManus as she speaks with David Kirkpatrick, international correspondent based in the London bureau of the New York Times.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought much of the world to a standstill, it’s done nothing to stem violence in Libya. The past months have seen the steady escalation of a proxy war that has not yet garnered the same degree of political attention in the United States as elsewhere in the region. Few understand the stakes as well as David D. Kirkpatrick, NY Times correspondent and former Cairo bureau chief. For the past year, Kirkpatrick has produced some of the most compelling investigative reports from inside the country. Kirkpatrick is uniquely placed to discuss the geopolitical dynamics of the war in Libya; his most recent book, Into the Hands of the Soldiers: Freedom and Chaos in Egypt and the Middle East, offers an in-depth account of Egypt’s recent political trajectory, one of the main players in its neighbor to the west.
