Senior Analyst, Special Initiatives
Tammy Palacios is a Senior Analyst at the New Lines Institute. Tammy has studied terrorism and counterterrorism with a focus on al Qaeda and ISIS affiliates. She is a proponent for sustainable counterterrorism and CVE as supported by a truly cross-sectoral and multi-faceted understanding of the individuals, group, and region in question.
Prior to joining the New Lines Institute, Tammy served as Project Lead for the MENA Research Team at TTCSP, where she managed two international teams collecting data on think tanks and civil society organizations in the MENA region. Tammy also spent time on Syria and ISIS portfolios at the Institute for the Study of War where she focused on Salafi-Jihadist militant groups operating in Syria. She has received accreditations for her business and team management roles and enjoys motivating others.
Ms. Palacios has earned a Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Analysis from DHS Center of Excellence, START at the University of Maryland and a Bachelor’s in International Studies and Politics and Government from the University of Hartford. She is expected to receive her Master’s in Security and Terrorism Studies from the University of Maryland Graduate School in 2023.
Priority Sustainable Counterterrorism: Supporting CSOs to Mitigate the Spread of Terrorism in the Sahel
As ISIS- and al Qaeda-linked groups become more active in the Sahel, regional and global powers should focus on supporting civil society organizations that address the reasons that such groups take hold rather than on military-focused reactions to terrorism.
