Md Mahbubur Rahman is a PhD candidate at the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing of Massey University, New Zealand. His PhD topic is “Construction of Health Among the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh: A Culture-Centered Approach.” Rahman began working with Rohingya refugees during the crisis in 2017 as a journalist for Bangladesh Television. Since 2020, he has been working with Rohingya refugees resettled in New Zealand. He has 35 international journal articles with more than 750 citations. Until Myanmar rescinds the laws that stripped the Rohingya of their citizenship, their lack of a home country will make properly addressing their plight a near impossibility.
Since the latest iteration of the genocide of the Rohingya people by the Myanmar military began in August 2017, the Rohingya have faced state-sponsored discrimination, violence, and threats to their ethnic identity.
