Demonstration Against The Uyghurs Genocide And The Zero Covid Policy In China

Uyghur Genocide

This project examines the Chinese Communist Party's ongoing treatment of the Uyghur minority in China. In 2020, New Lines established the Uyghur Scholars Working Group to enhance situational awareness on the conditions that millions of ethnic Turkic Muslims face in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Since then, New Lines has been a leading voice on the Uyghur genocide, bringing together dozens of experts in international law, genocide studies, Chinese ethnic policies, and the region to examine all available evidence. The project's work has addressed issues including China's breaches of the Genocide Convention, the CCP's coercive mobilization of ethnic minorities to pick cotton, and the need to establish a UN Mechanism to gather evidence in Xinjiang.

Expert Collaboration

The Uyghur Scholars Working Group convenes specialists from across disciplines to examine the situation in Xinjiang with rigor and depth. By drawing on expertise in international law, genocide studies, and Chinese ethnic policies, the project produces research that meets the evidentiary standards required to inform legal proceedings and policy decisions. This collaborative model ensures that findings reflect the full complexity of the situation and are grounded in the latest available evidence.

Documenting and Advocating

The project has produced foundational research documenting the CCP’s treatment of Uyghurs and other ethnic Turkic Muslims, contributing to broader international recognition of the genocide. Beyond documentation, the project advocates for concrete policy responses, including the establishment of a UN Mechanism to gather and preserve evidence in Xinjiang. This dual focus on research and advocacy positions the project to influence both public discourse and policy action at the highest levels.
