Dr. John Nagl is the General John J. Pershing Professor of Warfighting Studies in the Department of Military Strategy, Planning, and Operations at the Army War College. Nagl graduated from West Point and served as an officer in the U.S. Army, fighting in both the Persian Gulf and Iraq War. He is the author of the books “Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam” and “Knife Fights: A Memoir of Modern War.” Nagl has also served as the president of the Center for a New American Security.
